Thai Cooking Class
Experience the rich culture and food of the Akha people, a community that became Thai citizens in the 1900s. Here are some tips to help you navigate the city:
Tuk-Tuks and Songthaews
Tuk-tuks and songthaews (red trucks) are popular modes of transportation in Chiang Mai.
Negotiate the fare before getting in, as they often don’t have meters. This bohemian rooftop bar serves tiki realness and is popular with travelers, especially backpackers, who come at low prices. The drag queens deliver outstanding performances, each showcasing their unique personality and style on stage. Upstairs is the cruising / dark space with private cabins for your enjoyment – most busy on Thursday nights and through the weekend.
Not at all the worst, we have been to, but seriously: why does every drag bar in Thailand insist on entirely ripping off tourists?
Set around a series of garden courtyards, the 41 guest rooms and five suites reflect the rich ethnic diversity of northern Thailand by using fabrics and patterns drawn from various tribes of the region.
The Dheva Spa and Wellness Centre offers a broad variety of European, Asian and North African relaxation therapies as well as Indian holistic treatments based on Ayurveda, from the Sanskrit meaning ‘science of life.’
There are 11 spacious treatment suites, each with a private bath, steam shower, heated marble scrub table and private relaxation area.
The communal areas are inviting and vibrant, creating a social environment for guests to connect and share their travel experiences.
Stamps Backpackers recently won a Hoscar award (Oscars for Hostels) for the best social hostel in Asia, which doesn’t surprise me as the atmosphere was so welcoming and with all the facilities you could want, which is a great mix to have for a social hostel.
Relax on your balcony daybed, or at the adults-only pool. Whether you’re looking for a hidden waterfall to hike to or the best street food in town, the staff at Stamps Backpackers will ensure you have an unforgettable experience in Chiang Mai.

Gay Accommodation in Chiang Mai
Club One Seven was my first ever experience going to a male-only gay space and yes that’s a phallic-shaped pool I’m swimming in and it’s well worth it.
Much like the cases in Istanbul, Bucharest, Budapest, and Jakarta, this is incredibly sad news and a poignant reminder to us in the Western world that the fight is far from over for global LGBT equality and acceptance. If you are traveling to Thailand for a gay blowout – this is not the place for you. If you are travelling solo book the dormitory, it gets you speaking to other guys and you get to be naked with other men 24 hours a day, what’s not to like?
With only 18 rooms and two suites, guests here always feel like VIPs, and the near-perfect reviews prove it. We can only hope shortly this situation changes, and Chiang Mai Pride once again returns as an important bastion of queer visibility!
Away from the subdued gay scene, Chiang Mai is a temple galore, lush forest, peaceful country village, incredible street food and luxe hotels.
Enter, take a set and order a drink. The staff at Club One Seven go above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels comfortable and accepted.
