Martre, a teenage art student, was reported missing in April 2017. In July 2018, Denise was sentenced to life in prison. The night of April 7, the camera picked up a parked black SUV and someone wearing a hoodie. The prosecution’s star witness was Alana, who testified that she heard Martre cry out while at home, and when she looked in his room, she saw Denise and LaToya sitting on top of him, holding him down.
It is unclear why she wanted the 19-year-old Martre dead, but the prosecution speculated she may have thought the murder would bring her closer to the victim’s father.
Soon, Gay and Coles started a relationship, and Gay and her daughters moved in with him and his son. LaToya received 20 years for the murder and 10 years for the conspiracy.
The witness later told a court that she had peeked into Martre’s bedroom and “could see his feet moving; they were like kicking up.” She then said Denise saw her and shooed her away. “The woman that he had brought into his home, and he thought cared for him and his family had actually killed his son.”
Maurice Coles offered Denise’s purse, with her wallet and cell phone inside.
Inside, he discovered the dead body of 19-year-old Martre Coles.

Twisted Cover Up on ID is investigating the murder of teenager Martre Coles, who was killed by his father’s girlfriend, Denise Gay, and her daughter LaToya Gay, in Highland Springs, a suburb of Richmond, Virginia.
At this point, her mother asked her to leave. Her cell phone location data put her near the site where Coles’ body was found.

A search of Denise Gay’s computer showed she had made up a fake name and was emailing Martre Coles as a ruse about going to Full Sail University.

The killers were unaware that the cops had already found the body, and the deputies were waiting for Denise at the dumping ground when she turned up with a shovel. Prosecutors said for months prior to Coles’ death, Denise Gay searched online for terms: “find something that works like chloroform” and “how long it takes to suffocate someone with duct tape.”
A medical examiner testified that Coles was found with Trazodone, a sedative and antidepressant most commonly used to treat depression.
The phone showed the actual text messages she and her daughter exchanged.
“Denise was communicating with her daughter LaToya that she could not find the body on April 7,” Taylor said. As per the show, he was supposed to make a mask of himself. She went right to the spot where Coles’ body was found.
“Investigators hadn’t released any information to the family about the body,” Burkett said.
